"Alignment" indicates whether the character is likely to be a hero, a villain, or one of those folks that straddle the fence, and whether they are a combat character ("active") or backup of some kind ("support"). "Affiliation" indicates what groups they belong to, who they're friends with, who's their main enemy, important relatives, and so forth.
