There are three types of characters so far: known "good guys", whose role in continuity as it's understood so far is to be "heroes"; known "bad guys", whose role in continuity as it's understood so far is to be "villains"; and unknowns, whose role in continuity is to be determined. All listed characters have an adaptor-- a person who "created" that character by adapting the original, gender-swapping, and making whatever changes to character history are necessary. Some characters have extremely lengthy writeups, which are accessible via hyperlinks on their names.

I've had to divide this document into three parts-- Good Guys, Bad Guys and Neutrals (people who can take the role of good guy or bad guy as the plot requires.)

GOOD GUYS: Includes members of mutant hero teams, close associates with X-Factor, etc. Characters who begin as good guys and later go bad are still classified here.

BAD GUYS: Includes members of villain teams and their associates, standalone opponents, etc. Characters who begin as bad guys and later go good are still classified here.

NEUTRAL CHARACTERS: These are either characters who can't be defined as good or bad guys, characters whose positions set them up to be allies or enemies depending on the situation, characters who aren't actually front-line combatants or support, or characters who are protagonists of their own series, such as the Hellions.
