Alara's Mystique Page
Yeah, yeah, yeah... ten months between updates... I suck. Mysti doesn't care, see. Magneto and Xavier get quite antsy when I don't update them, but Mystique likes to be mysterious-- she doesn't *care* if people get their regular fanfic fix. Otherwise I suppose I'd have a gun to my head by now. :-)
The loss of several large archives has created a lot of broken link problems, and I haven't been able to fix them all.
A new category, Evolution Mystique, is used to mark X-Men: Evolution stories. I'm also interested in Mystique stories from Ultimate X-Men or X-Men: The Animated Series (the one from the early 90's), if anyone has 'em.)
I've added our first Evolution fic, "Sick Sick Sick" by Red Witch. Also, I've added "The Jailbait Is Not a Job Benefit" by Karen, "Precious Pain" by Andariel, "The Fall" by The Mean Spleen, "Renere" by Lise Williams, "The Waiting Game" by Renee, and "Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes" and "Hang Onto Your Ego", both by Tilman Stieve.
Well, I was going to call this the Mystique Files, and discovered rather late in the game that it was the name of a now-defunct page, and I don't want to poach. So, with typical originality, I fall back on Alara's Mystique Page.
Mystique would be my second favorite Marvel villain (Magneto being first.) And, like Magneto, Mystique has never been only a villain. Back in the days when I started collecting X-Men, she was the ultimate villain to me (since Magneto was an X-Man at the time)-- devious, intelligent, a woman who didn't dress like something out of a Frederick's of Hollywood catalog, a ruthless villainness, a loving mother, a loyal friend. And a shapechanger. I was really into shapechangers in those days. In some ways I prefer Mystique's model of dealing with life to Magneto's-- if I were to become a supervillain, I think I'd like to sneak around behind the scenes, assassinating people and terrorizing them by taking their shapes and stealing super-duper technology, then coming home to my best friend and my daughter and having a normal life, rather than building secret bases, living there in seclusion, and blowing things up every time I get ticked off.
Anyway, I'd like submissions of Mystique links. Send me your Mystique stories. I tend to be less picky about Mystique stories than Magneto stories, since there are fewer of them, but if you send me a story that's badly formatted, I will either reformat it or not bother to put it up.
By the way, the notation Alternate Mystique indicates that Mystique has a role in an Elseworlds, a Power Swap Challenge, an Amalgam, or some other universe that's not a simple What If. Fanfic is all about What Ifs-- the classic Marvel concept of "what if a turning point event happened differently?" In an Alternate story, the concepts behind the characters themselves are so different that you can't identify any individual turning point-- it's something like "what if everyone had different powers", or "what if everyone was of different sexes", or "what if the universe was medieval Europe." The notation Movie Mystique indicates a story from the X-Men movieverse featuring Mystique.
